Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda

Updated on: Apr 17, 2013

The Government of Baroda and its people had for a long desired for a separate University of their own. The affiliation of all the institutions of higher education to a University situated far away was not  helping the region grow as a centre of higher education. Thus the establishment of Maharaja Sayajirao University gave the region the much needed boost for quality education in Baroda.

Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU), Baroda is also known as Vadodara University. The University has students from India and abroad. It offers Doctoral, Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate programs in numerous disciplines. MSU Baroda offers a wide range of traditional, professional and vocational courses, as also it runs University Experimental School (Gujarati Medium) to provide quality education at the school level. MSU has world reputed Research Institute, Civil Services Training Centre, and Centre for Continuing/Adult Education and Community Services.

The MSU is well equipped with all necessary facilities essential for good education such as, Library, Reading Room, Laboratory, Instrumentation Lab, Hostel, Boat Club, Sports, Canteen, Playground, and Auditorium.

The idea of establishing a University at Baroda had engaged the attention of the Government of the former State of Baroda and its educational advisers long before the question of regional universities and decentralization, reorganization and reconditioning of higher education to suit the cultural educational needs of particular areas had taken root in the country.

Baroda is synonymous with education. The patronage of education started with Maharaja Sayajirao and the city has built further on the academic infrastructure established by him. MSU is the only university in Gujarat with English as the medium of instruction. It has 13 faculties and 17 residential hostels, 4 of them for women students. The university caters to over 35,000 students.
