Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan was established in 1986. The objective for establishing the university is to meet the cultural and educational need of the region. The university has 19 post-graduate departments which are funded by the state government. The university runs self-financed courses viz. Social Works, physical educational, computer application & information technology, journalism, physics and library & information science. It also provides part-time certificate courses in vedic astrology.
