Dharmsinh Desai Institute of Technology (DDIT) was established in the year 1968.  In 2000, DDIT was accorded the  status of Deemed University by Govt. of India. In April 2005, the Government of Gujarat declared this Institution as a State University. The University is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The University is recognized but not funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Today the University offers large number of undergraduate & postgraduate courses in Engineering & Management; besides offering doctoral programmes. It also conducts the bachelor level degree courses in Dental Science, Pharmacy & Commerce.
