Gujarat Council of Elementary Education

The Gujarat Council of Elementary Education (GCEE) is an administrative agency of Department of Education Gujarat Government. The council is responsible for administration of elementary education in the state. The Council was registered on 8th November 1995, under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. The council was formed as a state level society for implementing District Primary Education Program, Phase II in the districts of Banaskantha, Panchmahal and Dangs. To make sure effective functioning at state level, the State Project Office was set up at Gandhinagar on 1st November 1996.
The Gujarat Council of Elementary Education (GCEE) earlier known as Gujarat Council of Primary Education has grown from an small agency implementing a project in just three districts to an organization implementing many number of different projects in primary education sector in the state, i.e. DPEP II & IV, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan , NPEGEL & KGBV.
The Gujarat Council of Elementary Education (GCEE) has successfully implemented District Primary Education Program (DPEP) in Banaskantha, Panchmahal and Dang in June 2003 and DPEP-IV in Sabarkantha, Surendranagar, Kutch, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, and Junagadh in June 2005. All the 25 Districts and Municipal Corporations in Gujarat are covered under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Mission (SSAM). Under the umbrella of SSAM, it is implementing National Programme for Education of Girls at Elementary Level (NPEGEL) in 1093 clusters of 78 rural Educationally Backward Blocks (EBBs) and 39 clusters of 13 urban slums in 21 districts (excluding Bharuch, Dang, Porbandar, and Valsad) in the state.
The Gujarat Council of Elementary Education is also implementing Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Yojana, under which, 30 residential elementary schools with boarding facilities are being set up for girls belonging to the disadvantaged groups of SC/ST/ OBC/ Minority and BPL in difficult areas.
